Monthly Worship Song: This is Amazing Grace

This week In Preschool & Lower Elementary...
CNX Kids learned: ” God will take care of me!”
This Sunday, CNX kids had fun talking about the love that God has for each of them.  Through their reading of 1 Kings 17:7-16, kids learned how God taught a widow and Elijah the importance of taking care of one another.  In this story, God gave Elijah the woman to help him. And God gave the woman Elijah to help her. God gives you people to help you, too! It’s one of the ways God takes care of you.

To remember this lesson, preschoolers and lower elementary students acted out skits about helping one another and made loaves of bread, complete with oatmeal glued to the tops of them, to take home with them!

This week in upper elementary…
CNX Kids learned: When God speaks to me, I need to do something about it.
Today in CNX Kids, Kids learned all about trust. Another word for trust in the Bible is faith. Faith is being so sure we can count on God that we’ll do anything He tells us to do. Faith isn’t just something that happens in our head. It’s only real faith if we live it out in our lives in the things we do.

Esther could say she believed in God all day long, but it wasn’t until she risked her life with the king that we saw just how real her faith was!

Hey Parents,
Want to explore this week’s lesson with your child at home?
Here’s how!!

Preschool:
Review the weekly Bible story by reading it together
1 Kings 17:7-16
God uses a poor widow to help take care of Elijah.

Help your children live out this week’s Bible verse by finding examples of it in their own lives and yours.
“My God will meet all your needs.” Philippians 4:19, NIrV

Try out the following activity:
Grab some checkers or a crayon. Talk about all the people that help your child. See how many people he can think of and make a mark or line up a checker each time he names someone new. When he’s done, ask your child to count how many marks or checkers he has. Celebrate God for giving your child so many people to
help him!

Set aside time throughout the week to pray together:
“Dear God, we just want to say thank You for giving us what we need. Thank You for loving us and taking care of us. In Jesus’ name, amen.”

Upper Elementary School:
Encourage your child to explain to you how they have learned ways that: When God speaks to me, I need to do something about it.

Esther Risks Her Life (Esther 1-8)

Help your children live out this week’s Bible verse by finding examples of it in their own lives and yours.
Do not merely listen to the word and so deceive yourselves, but do what it says.
— James 1:21

Try out the following activity:
Divide your family into teams for a fun competition. You can compete in a board game, a sport, or in some other way. If your family has three members or less, team up together to compete against another family. After you have fun competing, talk about how important teamwork was during this game. Then remind your kids that teamwork is important in our lives too. As we listen to what God is telling us and make a plan to do what he says, we need to buddy up. It’s hard to do all this on our own, so we need to find a teammate who can cheer us on and do what God has told us to do.

Have a Dinnertime Discussion!
At dinner time this week, ask one of these questions to get your family talking:

  •  What was your favorite part of today?
  • What was the funniest thing you saw today?
  •  What was the hardest thing that happened to you today?
  •  If you could have a do-over, what would you differently today?

Set aside time throughout the week to pray together:
God, thanks that we can trust you. Please help us to not just listen to you, but to have enough faith to take action. Show us what you want us to do and give the courage to do it.

Amen

This week In Preschool & Lower Elementary...
CNX Kids learned: ” God will take care of me!”
This Sunday, CNX kids had fun talking about the love that God has for each of them.  Through their reading of 1 Kings 17:1-6, kids learned how God took care of Elijah by sending Ravens with food. Even though Elijah was hiding in a far away place, God kept him safe and gave him food to eat and water to drink. God took care of Elijah and God will take care of us, too!

To remember this lesson, preschoolers and lower elementary students made bird feeders to take home with them.

This week in upper elementary…
CNX Kids learned: I need to unpack what God is telling me with others.
Today in CNX Kids, Kids learned through the story of Joseph interpreting Pharaoh’s dream that we need other people to help us unpack what God is telling us. Then, they reviewed the circle and had the chance to discuss personal kairos with their classmates.

It’s easy to forget all the things God does to take care of us. This month, use your drive time to help you and your child remember. Take a few moments to pray when you get in the car or when you arrive where you are going. Pray for and thank God for things like: safety, a car to drive, money to buy groceries, teachers that help us learn, doctors to help us feel better, libraries to check out books, money to buy clothes, etc. Before you know it, you and your child
will see God at work all around you!

Set aside time throughout the week to pray together:
“Dear God, we just want to say thank You for giving us what we need. Thank You for loving us and taking care of us. In Jesus’ name, amen.”

Upper Elementary School:
Encourage your child to explain to you how they have learned ways that: I need to unpack what God is telling me with others.

Get all the advice and instruction you can so that you can be wise the rest of your life. — Proverbs 19:20 (NLT)

Try out the following activity:
This week sit down and work a puzzle together. Talk about how sometimes puzzles can be hard, but that if you work together with your friends or family, you can help each other put all of the pieces in place. Talk to your kids about the fact that when God speaks to us, it can be a little confusing, like a puzzle, but that God gives us friends and family to help us put all of the pieces together and figure it out. Share an example from your life about how God got your attention with a Scripture or a circumstance and how you unpacked it with another person to help you to put what God was telling you into action.

Have a Dinnertime Discussion!
At dinner time this week, ask these questions to get your family talking.
·      What was the best thing you did today?
·      What was the worst?
·      Did anything surprise you today?
·      Who earned the title “most awesome friend” for you today? Why?
·      Who are the three people you trust most in the whole world?

Set aside time throughout the week to pray together:
God, thanks giving us friends and family to help us to follow You. Please help us to talk to others about the cool things you’re saying to us this week.

Amen

This week In Preschool & Lower Elementary...
CNX Kids learned:  God will take care of me!
This Sunday, CNX kids had fun talking about the love that God has for each of them.  Through their reading of Matthew 6:25-34, kids discovered that if God provides for the flowers and birds, how much more will he provide for all of us?!

This week in upper elementary…
CNX Kids learned: God talks to kids every day, and I can learn to recognize His voice.
Today in CNX Kids, Kids learned that God is speaking to them every day and how to recognize His voice. To do this, they played a fun game called “Circle Quest” to help them identify what it looks like to listen to God.

Hey Parents,
Want to explore this week’s lesson with your child at home?
Here’s how!!

Preschool:
Review the weekly Bible story by reading it together
Matthew 6:25-34
Jesus reminds us that, if God feeds the birds and dresses the flowers, He will surely take care of us!

Help your children live out this week’s Bible verse by finding examples of it in their own lives and yours.
“My God will meet all your needs.” Philippians 4:19, NIrV

Try out the following activity:
Go outside with some paper and crayons. Take a walk and look for
birds and flowers. Talk about their colors and what they look like, and then try and draw them. Take the pictures you draw and hang them on your refrigerator. Let them be a sweet reminder that God will take care of you!

Set aside time throughout the week to pray together:
“Dear God, we just want to say thank You for giving us what we need. Thank You for loving us and taking care of us. In Jesus’ name, amen.”

Upper Elementary School:
Encourage your child to explain to you how they have learned ways that: God talks to kids every day, and I can learn to recognize His voice.

Samuel hears God. (1 Samuel 3)

Help your children live out this week’s Bible verse by finding examples of it in their own lives and yours.
My sheep listen to my voice; I know them, and they follow me.
— John 10:27

Try out the following activity:
Take a family walk this week and listen for hidden sounds. See how many sounds you can discover that you might normally miss when you’re playing, talking, or laughing. When you get home, review all of the sounds and talk about how we often don’t hear them because we’re not paying attention. Remind kids that in the same way, we can miss hearing God’s voice if we’re not listening for Him.

Have a Dinnertime Discussion!
At dinner time this week, ask one of these questions to get your family talking:
  1. What was your favorite part of today
  2. What was the funniest thing you saw today?
  3. What was the hardest thing that happened to you today?
  4. If you could have a do-over, what would you do differently today?
Use these questions to help kids discover how God may be trying to get their attention through the circumstances of their day. Follow up these conversations by asking kids how the events of the day made them feel and what God might want them to do about it.

Set aside time throughout the week to pray together:
God, thanks that not only can we talk to You, but that You actually talk to us too. Thank You for inviting us to join You on Your adventure. Please help all of us learn to recognize Your voice this week and hear the cool things that You want to tell us.

Amen
