Monthly Worship Song: Sing, Sing, Sing!

This week In Preschool & Lower Elementary...
CNX Kids learned: The Bible is better than gold!”

On Sunday, CNX Kids discovered even more treasure in the fact that they are wonderfully made by God (Psalm 139:14.)

This week, preschoolers and lower elementary students learned about how God made each of us just the way we are. He made our hair and our smile, the way we think and laugh ... He made all of us just the way we are. And THAT makes us SUPER special!

To remember their lesson, preschoolers and lower elementary students had fun decorating their faces in the mirror and then created collages of words and images that represented the unique way that God made each of them.

This week in upper elementary
CNX Kids learned: "We all need friends to help us live like Jesus"

Today in CNX Kids we discussed what it means to be super friends. We saw that not only does God want us to be friends with Him; He also wants to share His love with spiritual friends who can help us follow Him.

The way we can do this is to live out three things that Jesus did to show Gods love to his friends: He prayed, encouraged, and challenged.  These are things that spiritual friends do. Their prayer, encouragement, and challenge help us to become more like our hero Jesus.

Hey Parents,
Want to explore this weeks lesson with your child at home?
Heres how!!

Preschool + Lower Elementary:
Review the weekly Bible story by reading it together
The Bible is better than gold. • Psalm 119:72

Help your children live out this weeks Bible verse by finding examples of it in their own lives and yours.
“Your teachings are worth more to me than thousands of pieces of gold and silver. Psalm 119:72, NCV

Try out the following activity:
When youre in the car and see a person walking down the street, point at the window and say, “Jesus wants to be his friend forever!
Look in the rearview mirror each time you get in the car and say, “You are wonderfully made by God!
When you pass a church, say, “Church! We are a part of Gods BIG family!
While running errands, ask your child to look for ways to help others. He can carry groceries, pick up trash or hold the door for someone.

The Bible truly is better than gold and it teaches us so many wonderful things!

Set aside time throughout the week to pray together:
“Dear God, thank You for making us just the way we are. We love You, God. In Jesus name, amen.

Upper Elementary School:
Encourage your child to explain to you how they have learned ways that: We all need friends to help us to live like Jesus.

By this all men will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another. John 13:35

Try out the following activity:
This week your child learned about the value of having spiritual friends who they can pray for, encourage, and challenge, and who will do the same for them. For this weeks family challenge, make some time in your familys schedule to invite your childs friends over to spend time hanging out. If your child doesnt have friends who are believers, invite a family over from your church to help your child begin a relationship with other believers who are the same age.

Have a Dinnertime Discussion!
At dinnertime this week, ask one of these questions to get your family talking.
  • Whos the best friend youve ever had?
  • Have you ever had the chance to encourage a friend or had them encourage you? What happened?
  • Have you ever prayed for your friend or had them pray for you? What happened?
  • Have you ever had to challenge a friend when they werent following God or had a friend challenge you? What happened?

Use these questions to help your kids think about how they and their friends can help each other become more like Jesus. Remind them in these conversations that if we really love our friends, well make the time to spend with them to build fun, healthy relationships that honor God and show the world His love.

Set aside time throughout the week to pray together:

God, thank You for giving us friends. Please send us more superfriends who love you so that they can help us become more like your Son, Jesus. Please help us to help them become more like Jesus too. Amen

This week In Preschool & Lower Elementary...
CNX Kids learned: The Bible is better than gold!”
On Sunday, we kicked off a new unit in CNX Kids!! We are so excited about these next two months where we are going to learn that the Bible is better than gold.

This week, preschoolers and lower elementary students discovered this amazing treasureGods “teachings are worth more to me than thousands of pieces of gold and silver, Psalm 119:72, NCV. As they continue to hunt for Bible treasures, they will learn that they were wonderfully made, that God loves them all the time, and that they are part of Gods family.

To remember their lesson, preschoolers and lower elementary students dressed up as pirates and made treasure chests filled with the greatest treasure in the entire worldthe Bible!!

This week in upper elementary
CNX Kids learned: God wants us to look UP and spend time with Him.
Today in CNX Kids we discussed that to be like our hero Jesus, we have to do the things Jesus did. Thats called being a disciple or a follower of Jesus. Through their Bible story, Mark 1:35, kids learned that no matter how busy Jesus was, He always made time to spend with God because nothing was more important to Him than hanging out with His heavenly Father. Thats what made Jesus so strong, smart and unstoppable spending time with God. If were going to be like our hero Jesus, we need to learn to do the same thing.

Pick a few of your childs favorite books, grab a Bible, and cuddle up on the couch with your child. Read the books together. Talk about why your child loves these books so much. (Favorite characters, pictures, parts of stories, etc.) Pull out the Bible and talk about how it is the most valuable book in the whole wide world because it has Gods words in it.

Set aside time throughout the week to pray together:
“Dear God, thank You for giving us Your words in the Bible. Help us to see that the Bible is better than gold! Thats amazing! Teach us to love the Bible and do what it says. You are so good, God, and we love You very much. In Jesus name, amen.

Upper Elementary School:

Jesus spent time with God (Mark 1:35)

Help your children live out this weeks Bible verse by finding examples of it in their own lives and yours.
My soul thirsts for God, for the living God. When can I go and meet with God? Psalm 42:2

Try out the following activity:
Help your kids begin the habit of spending time with God by establishing some “Hero Hangout Time this week. Set aside 15 minutes each day for you and your child to spend time hanging out with God individually.
In this weeks huddle time your child drew a Hero Worship comic book
to guide this UP time. Kids drew five pictures to represent the following things: praising a characteristic of God, thanking God, confessing sin to God, talking to God about worries or fears, and asking God for something. The panels also contain a Bible verse to read each day. Encourage kids to take one panel a day, talk to God about it, and read the Bible verse.

Have a Dinnertime Discussion!
At dinner time this week, ask these questions to get your family talking.
  • Whats the most fun thing youve done with a friend this week?
  •  Whats been most fun thing youve done with God this week?
  •  Whats it been like to have hangout time with God? Has it been fun or hard or both?
  •  Has anything from your Hero Hangout Time come up in other places like at school or with your friends? What was it?

Use these questions to help kids discover that God wants to be their friend and spend time with them. Look for ways God is speaking to them in their Hero Hangout Time and try to connect it to their everyday lives. Help them discover what God is saying and what He wants them to do about it.

Set aside time throughout the week to pray together:
God, thank You that You want to be our friend. Thank You that even though Youre running the universe, Youre never too busy to spend time with Your kids. Please help us not to miss out and to plan some special time with You each day this week.

Amen

Monthly Worship Song: This is Amazing Grace

This week In Preschool & Lower Elementary...
CNX Kids learned: God will take care of me!”
This Sunday, CNX kids had fun talking about the plan that God has for each of them.  God had a plan for Abraham in our Bible story today. His plan gave Abraham a new home, a new baby boy, and a large family! But first, Abraham had to trust God and follow His plan. It wasnt always easy. Moving your whole family somewhere youve never been before can be hard! Abraham did it, though, and Gods plan was awesome! God has a special plan for you, too! Its one of the ways God takes care of you!

To remember this lesson, preschoolers and lower elementary students acted out skits about helping one another and made self-portraits complete with googly eyes and clothes to take home with them!

This week in upper elementary
CNX Kids learned: God wants me to build my life on what He says.
Today in CNX Kids, we read the story of The Wise and Foolish Builders in Matthew 7: 24-27. When Jesus told this story, he
wasnt really talking about
building houses. He was talking about
building lives. Jesus says that anyone who hears what I say and actually does something about it is like a wise man who built his house on rock. When life gets stormy, when trouble comes your way, you will stay strong if you build your life on what Jesus says. But the foolish man is a like someone who hears what Jesus says but doesnt do anything about it. When life gets stormy, when trouble comes his way, the foolish persons life falls apart.

Just like the houses in the story, all of us will face stormy times in our lives. They can feel like theyre going to tear us apart. But if we build our life like this by listening to Jesus and doing what He says, well be like the wise man who built his house on sturdy rocks. When a big storm came, his house stayed strong. And when troubles come for you, Jesus will help you to be strong too!

GenesiS 12:1-7
God shows Abraham His plan, which includes a new home and a huge family!

Help your children live out this weeks Bible verse by finding examples of it in their own lives and yours.
“My God will meet all your needs. Philippians 4:19, NIrV

Try out the following activity:
Cuddle up with your child and pray. “Dear God, I am so glad it
was Your plan to give [name of child] to me. I love him so very much. Help me to have wisdom and love so I will know how to take care of him. Help us both to trust Your plan and follow You wherever You lead. We love You, God. In Jesus name, amen.

Set aside time throughout the week to pray together:
“Dear God, we just want to say thank You for having a special plan for each of us! Thank You for loving us and taking care of us. In Jesus name, amen.

The Wise and Foolish Builders (Matthew 7:24-27)

Help your children live out this weeks Bible verse by finding examples of it in their own lives and yours.
Therefore everyone who hears these words of mine and puts them into practice is like a wise man who built his house on the rock.
Matthew 7:24

Try out the following activity:
Have some fun building something as a family this week. Bust out the Legos or Tinker Toys, Lincoln Logs or Knex. If youre really ambitious, grab some sheets and blankets and build a fort in the living room or use scrap lumber to construct one outside. As youre working, talk about the story
of the wise and foolish builders from Matthew 7. Remind kids that every time they hear God speaking and actually do what He says, its like adding another brick to building a wise life. Remind them if they ignore what Gods saying, and dont act on it, life is much harder. Share some examples of times when you were like the wise builder and put Gods word into action and share about other times when you suffered because you ignored it.

Have a Dinnertime Discussion!
At dinner time this week, ask these questions to get your family talking.

  •         If you could build an entire house out of your favorite food, what food would you use?
  •        What would it be like to live there? How would it hold up in a storm?
  •         Did you have anything that felt like a storm in your day?
  •        Is there anything God told you to do today that youre glad you did or wished youd done?

Use these questions to help kids discover things God may be prompting them to do and help them put a plan in place to do it. Remind kids that every time they act on what God tells them to do, theyre building storm- proof lives, built to handle anything that the world throws their way.

Set aside time throughout the week to pray together:
God, thank you for teaching us the right way to live. Please help us to remember what you have taught us this week. Help us to live wise lives by following You.
Amen
