Monthly Worship Song: Sing, Sing, Sing!

This week In Preschool & Lower Elementary...
CNX Kids learned: The Bible is better than gold!”
On Sunday, preschoolers and lower elementary students read Luke 11: 1-13 and learned how Jesus taught the disciples to pray. The Jesus Storybook Bible gave beautiful language to this prayer for our kids:
“Hello Daddy!
We want to know you.
And be close to you.
Please show us how.
Make everything in the world right again.
And in our hearts, too.
Do what is best -- just like you do in heaven,
And please do it down here, too.
Please give us everything we need today.
Forgive us for doing wrong, for hurting you.
Forgive us just as we forgive other people when they hurt us.
Rescue us! We need you.
We don't want to keep running away and hiding from you.
Keep us safe from our enemies.
You're strong, God.
You can do whatever you want.
You are in charge.
Now and forever and for always!
We think you're great!
Amen!
Yes we do!

To apply this lesson, preschoolers and lower elementary students began prayer journals that they will contribute to in upcoming lessons.  They also created a cell phone craft to remember that we can call God anytime!

This week in upper elementary
CNX Kids learned: God is our dad in Heaven, and we can talk to Him about anything.
Today 4th and 5th graders read Luke 11:1-4 and learned how Jesus taught the disciples to pray.  Like the younger students, they also began prayer journals to record their weekly conversations with God.

As their group discussion, kids talked about Gods kingdom and identified the things that would be different than the world in which we currently live.  Students had the opportunity to draw a picture of what it would like if Gods Kingdom came to earth.

When youre done playing, remind your child that God is always listening to us too!

Set aside time throughout the week to pray together:
God, thank You for bringing your kingdom to earth. Help us to want what you want. Use us to bring that good stuff into other peoples lives too. We love you. Amen.

Afterward, talk about how much people love to communicate with each other because were made in the image of a God who loves to talk with us too.
Take time to read through the Lords Prayer and begin memorizing it as a family to remind your family of the types of things Jesus taught us to pray about the Fathers character, kingdom, provision, forgiveness, guidance, and protection.

Have a Dinnertime Discussion!
At dinnertime this week, ask some of the following questions to get your family talking.

  • Who did you spend the most time talking to today? What did you talk about?

This week In Preschool & Lower Elementary...
CNX Kids learned: The Bible is better than gold!”
On Sunday, our Pirate Ship took us to a new adventure of learning that the Bible is better than gold.

This week, preschoolers and lower elementary students read John 13:34-35 and learned that just as Jesus washed the feet of the disciples, one of the ways that we can love one another is through service to each other.

To remember their lesson, preschoolers and lower elementary students made coupon books for kind acts of service to give to their loved ones!

This week in upper elementary
CNX Kids learned: Everyone gets to play on God’s team.
Today 4th and 5th graders discovered the different ministry roles God has created in the church and explore the differences between them.  To remember their lesson, we played games to help them identify key characteristics of the five-fold ministries, match them up with biblical examples, and explore similarities in their own lives.

As a special treat, Mr. Chad brought in Five-fold Ministry Chocolate Chip cookies! Only one batch contained all of the ingredientsthey represented Jesus! All of the others were missing one key item.  As kids saw, each ingredient plays a special role in the cookiejust like each of us play a special role in Gods kingdom!

Monthly Worship Song: Sing, Sing, Sing!

This week In Preschool & Lower Elementary...
CNX Kids learned: The Bible is better than gold!”
On Sunday, we continued our Pirate Adventure of learning that the Bible is better than gold.

This week, preschoolers and lower elementary students read Hebrews 10:25 and learned that they all are a special part of Gods family! Our Bible story taught us that Gods family is HUGE!  One of the things that makes the Bible better than gold is that it teaches us wonderful things about God!

To remember their lesson, preschoolers and lower elementary students made paper bag churches with a little paper doll to remind them of their special place in Gods family.

This week in upper elementary
CNX Kids learned: God wants us to work from rest, not rest from work.
Today in CNX Kids, we learned about finding rest in Jesus.  In Mark, Jesus teaches that He is the vine and we are the branches.  When we become disconnected from the vine, we dont get what we need in order to live.  When we are connected to the vine, we not only find life, but also a place to rest and recharge knowing the love that God has for us.  Much like a flashlight battery with little charge can produce little light, we are unable to produce much fruit when we are drained.  A flashlight that is fully charged can produce a great amount of light.  When we have rested and recharged in the love of Jesus, and not used so much energy for other things, we are able produce much more fruit.

Hey Parents,
Want to explore this weeks lesson with your child at home?
Heres how!!

Preschool + Lower Elementary:

The Bible is better than gold and it teaches us that we are a part of Gods family, the church! - Hebrews 10:25

Help your children live out this weeks Bible verse by finding examples of it in their own lives and yours.
“Your teachings are worth more to me than thousands of pieces of gold and silver. Psalm 119:72, NCV

Try out the following activity:
Cuddle up with your child and pray. “Dear God, thank You for
giving us family like [name close family members] to love us. And thank You for letting us be a part of Your family, the church. They love us too! Help us to love our family and be good to them. In Jesus name, amen.

Set aside time throughout the week to pray together:
“Dear God, thank You for giving us such a big family at church. Its always a great day when we get to spend time together learning about how much You love us. Thank you for giving us time to work and time to rest. Help us to love one another the way You love us. In Jesus name, amen.

Upper Elementary School:
Encourage your child to explain to you how they have learned ways that: God wants us to work from rest, not rest from work.

Review the weekly Bible story by reading it together:
Jesus invites the disciples to rest. (Mark 6:31-32)

Help your children live out this weeks Bible verse by finding examples of it in their own lives and yours.
I am the vine; you are the branches. If a man remains in me and I in him, he will bear much fruit; apart from me you can do nothing. John 15:5

Try out the following activity:
Brainstorm a list of the ways you rest as a family. These can as simple
as watching a movie together, going for a walk, or just having some down time playing in the backyard. Make another list of the “work activities that keep you busy things like school, your job, homework, sports, or extracurricular activities. Talk about the healthy rhythm of working from a place of rest rather than just resting from busyness. Discuss how well you do this as a family.

Have a Dinnertime Discussion!
At dinnertime this week, ask one of these questions to get your family talking.
  • What are things that keep you busy?
  • Who gets the most sleep in our family? Who sleeps the least?
  • What are the fun things you do that make you feel rested?
  • Which do you think our family does more, work or rest?
  • How can we honor God by doing both?

Use these questions to evaluate if you need to cut any activities as a family or maybe plan some special family time to recharge your batteries if youre about to go into a season of more activity.

Set aside time throughout the week to pray together:
God, thanks that you love us enough to want us to rest before we work. Please help us take time to rest, relax and have fun, but to also have fun serving and doing the good work You have for us.

Amen
