This week In Preschool & Lower Elementary...
CNX Kids learned: ” The Bible is better than gold!”
On Sunday, our Pirate Ship took us to a new adventure of learning that the Bible is better than gold.

This week, preschoolers and lower elementary students read John 13:34-35 and learned that just as Jesus washed the feet of the disciples, one of the ways that we can love one another is through service to each other.

To remember their lesson, preschoolers and lower elementary students made coupon books for kind acts of service to give to their loved ones!

This week in upper elementary…
CNX Kids learned: Everyone gets to play on God’s team.
Today 4th and 5th graders discovered the different ministry roles God has created in the church and explore the differences between them.  To remember their lesson, we played games to help them identify key characteristics of the five-fold ministries, match them up with biblical examples, and explore similarities in their own lives.

As a special treat, Mr. Chad brought in Five-fold Ministry Chocolate Chip cookies! Only one batch contained all of the ingredients…they represented Jesus! All of the others were missing one key item.  As kids saw, each ingredient plays a special role in the cookie—just like each of us play a special role in God’s kingdom!

Hey Parents,
Want to explore this week’s lesson with your child at home?
Here’s how!!

Preschool + Lower Elementary:
Review the weekly Bible story by reading it together
The Bible tells me to look for ways to help others. Love one another. • John 13:34-35

Help your children live out this week’s Bible verse by finding examples of it in their own lives and yours.
“Your teachings are worth more to me than thousands of pieces of gold and silver.” Psalm 119:72, NCV

Try out the following activity:
Give your child his own basket of cleaning supplies and make him your helper for the day. Tell him what a great job he is doing while he helps you. When you’re done, enjoy a snack together and talk about different ways he can help others. God wants us to always be on the look out for ways we can be a helper!

Set aside time throughout the week to pray together:
God, thank You for making each one of us special and for inviting us to play a special part on your team. Help us to be there for one another and to grow to be like Jesus.
 Amen

Upper Elementary School:
Encourage your child to explain to you how they have learned ways that: Everyone gets to play on God’s team.

Review the weekly Bible story by reading it together:
Five-fold ministry (Ephesians 4)

Help your children live out this week’s Bible verse by finding examples of it in their own lives and yours.
For we are God’s workmanship, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do.
— Ephesians 2:10

Try out the following activity:
As a family, work as a team to build a house or tower out of a deck of cards. Talk about your experience afterward. Who was the designer? Who had the steadiest hand for building? Who was the cheerleader?
Remind your kids how God gives each of us an opportunity to play
a special part on His team. Share which of the five ministries listed in Ephesians 4 that you are strong in — Apostle, Prophet, Evangelist, Pastor, or Teacher. Talk about other friends or family who are gifted in the other four ministries.
Encourage your kids to have fun trying out different ways of serving to discover how God has wired them to play their part on His team.

Have a Dinnertime Discussion!
At dinnertime this week, ask some of the following questions to get your family talking.
  • What’s something that you’re really good at?
  • What’s the best or worst team you have ever been a part of?
  • Which superpower have you used the most this week – listening to God, caring for people, starting new things with God, telling others about Jesus, or helping people understand the truth?
  • How can you try out one of the other superpowers next week? people see that He loves them and wants them to be a part of His family.

Set aside time throughout the week to pray together:
God, thank You for reaching out to us with your love. Thank You for inviting us to join your family, your team. Please show us people on the outside who need us to show them Your love this week.
Amen

This week In Preschool & Lower Elementary...
CNX Kids learned: ” The Bible is better than gold!”
On Sunday, we continued our Pirate Adventure of learning that the Bible is better than gold.

This week, preschoolers and lower elementary students read Hebrews 10:25 and learned that they all are a special part of God’s family! Our Bible story taught us that God’s family is HUGE!  One of the things that makes the Bible better than gold is that it teaches us wonderful things about God!

To remember their lesson, preschoolers and lower elementary students made paper bag churches with a little paper doll to remind them of their special place in God’s family.

This week in upper elementary…
CNX Kids learned: God wants us to work from rest, not rest from work.
Today in CNX Kids, we learned about finding rest in Jesus.  In Mark, Jesus teaches that He is the vine and we are the branches.  When we become disconnected from the vine, we don’t get what we need in order to live.  When we are connected to the vine, we not only find life, but also a place to rest and recharge knowing the love that God has for us.  Much like a flashlight battery with little charge can produce little light, we are unable to produce much fruit when we are drained.  A flashlight that is fully charged can produce a great amount of light.  When we have rested and recharged in the love of Jesus, and not used so much energy for other things, we are able produce much more fruit.

Hey Parents,
Want to explore this week’s lesson with your child at home?
Here’s how!!

Preschool + Lower Elementary:
Review the weekly Bible story by reading it together
The Bible is better than gold and it teaches us that we are a part of God’s family, the church! - Hebrews 10:25

Help your children live out this week’s Bible verse by finding examples of it in their own lives and yours.
“Your teachings are worth more to me than thousands of pieces of gold and silver.” Psalm 119:72, NCV

Try out the following activity:
Cuddle up with your child and pray. “Dear God, thank You for
giving us family like [name close family members] to love us. And thank You for letting us be a part of Your family, the church. They love us too! Help us to love our family and be good to them. In Jesus name, amen.”

Set aside time throughout the week to pray together:
“Dear God, thank You for giving us such a big family at church. It’s always a great day when we get to spend time together learning about how much You love us. Thank you for giving us time to work and time to rest. Help us to love one another the way You love us. In Jesus’ name, amen.”

Upper Elementary School:
Encourage your child to explain to you how they have learned ways that: God wants us to work from rest, not rest from work.

Review the weekly Bible story by reading it together:
Jesus invites the disciples to rest. (Mark 6:31-32)

Help your children live out this week’s Bible verse by finding examples of it in their own lives and yours.
I am the vine; you are the branches. If a man remains in me and I in him, he will bear much fruit; apart from me you can do nothing. — John 15:5

Try out the following activity:
Brainstorm a list of the ways you ”rest” as a family. These can as simple
as watching a movie together, going for a walk, or just having some down time playing in the backyard. Make another list of the “work” activities that keep you busy — things like school, your job, homework, sports, or extracurricular activities. Talk about the healthy rhythm of working from a place of rest rather than just resting from busyness. Discuss how well you do this as a family.

Have a Dinnertime Discussion!
At dinnertime this week, ask one of these questions to get your family talking.
  • What are things that keep you busy?
  • Who gets the most sleep in our family? Who sleeps the least?
  • What are the fun things you do that make you feel rested?
  • Which do you think our family does more, work or rest?
  • How can we honor God by doing both?

Use these questions to evaluate if you need to cut any activities as a family or maybe plan some special family time to recharge your batteries if you’re about to go into a season of more activity.

Set aside time throughout the week to pray together:
God, thanks that you love us enough to want us to rest before we work. Please help us take time to rest, relax and have fun, but to also have fun serving and doing the good work You have for us.

Amen

This week In Preschool & Lower Elementary...
CNX Kids learned: ” The Bible is better than gold!”

On Sunday, we continued our Pirate Adventure of learning that the Bible is better than gold.

This week, preschoolers and lower elementary students read Jeremiah 31:3 and learned that God’s love for us is SOOOOOOO strong that He loves us ALL the time! Whether we’re happy, sad, mad, sleepy, laughing, crying, when we do something good, and when we do something bad. God loves us ALL the time! That’s some strong love and WAY better than gold!

To remember their lesson, preschoolers and lower elementary students made watches to wear to remind them that no matter what time of the day it is, no matter where they are, God Loves them ALL the time!

This week in upper elementary…
CNX Kids learned: God wants us to look UP and spend time with Him.

Today in CNX Kids we learned that Jesus had a relationship with His Father God and a special group of people who were His best friends, the disciples.

But Jesus didn’t just come to earth to reach up and be friends with God. And He didn’t just come to reach in to His best friends. He also came to reach out to people like Zacchaeus who were different or left out or forgotten. He came to reach out to people who were lost and didn’t know how to be friends with God. Jesus said He came to look for people like that and reach out and save them with God’s love.

The best part is that He invites us to do the same thing!

Hey Parents,
Want to explore this week’s lesson with your child at home?
Here’s how!!

Preschool + Lower Elementary:
Review the weekly Bible story by reading it together
The Bible tells me God loves me all the time. -Jeremiah 31:3

Help your children live out this week’s Bible verse by finding examples of it in their own lives and yours.
“Your teachings are worth more to me than thousands of pieces of gold and silver.” Psalm 119:72, NCV

Try out the following activity:
Sing the following tune with your child while giving him a bath.
(Sing to the tune of “Farmer in the Dell.”) “God loves me all the time. God loves me all the time. Even when I get in trouble, God loves me all the time.”

Set aside time throughout the week to pray together:
“Dear God, thank You for giving us Your words in the Bible that tell us that You love us all the time!  Help us to see that the Bible is better than gold! That’s amazing! Teach us to love the Bible and do what it says. You are so good, God, and we love You very much. In Jesus’ name, amen.”

Upper Elementary School:
Encourage your child to explain to you how they have learned ways that: Jesus wants us to reach out and share God’s love.

Review the weekly Bible story by reading it together:
Zacchaeus (Luke 19:1-10)

Help your children live out this week’s Bible verse by finding examples of it in their own lives and yours.
For the Son of Man came to seek and save what was lost. — Luke 19:10

Try out the following activity:
Take one step this week to reach out as a family to someone who doesn’t know God. Don’t make them your project. Just simply serve them and love them. Maybe you could invite another family over for dinner or go serve an elderly neighbor. Whatever you do, make sure you pray about it together beforehand and spend some time debriefing afterward to learn how God used you to show His love to others.

Have a Dinnertime Discussion!
At dinnertime this week, ask one of these questions to get your family talking.
  • Have you ever felt left out before?
  • Who do you know who is kind of an outsider at work or school?
  • Who do you know who isn’t yet friends with God?
  • What are some ways you can show God’s love to people who don’t know Him?

Use these questions to help kids think about how they can reach out to people who are lonely or hurting and show them God’s love. Help them to understand that God always wants us to reach out to help people see that He loves them and wants them to be a part of His family.

Set aside time throughout the week to pray together:
God, thank You for reaching out to us with your love. Thank You for inviting us to join your family, your team. Please show us people on the outside who need us to show them Your love this week.
Amen
