Monthly Worship Song: You’re Worthy of My Praise
This week In Preschool &
Lower Elementary...
CNX Kids learned: ”God Helps me Do Big Things!”
God knew David loved God with his whole
heart. That was much more important to God than what David looked like on the
outside.
God helped Samuel do something really big
by helping him find the next king! Only God could have helped Samuel, because
let’s
face it, David didn’t
look like much of a king. But God wasn’t looking at
the outside. He was looking on the inside—at David’s
heart.
God helps us do big things! The Bible
says
it this way: ‘We
have the Lord our God to help us,’ 2 Chronicles
32:8. That means God loves us SO much that He will ALWAYS be there to help us
out!
To remember this lesson, CNX kids created
a heart craft and drew all of the special things that God sees in their hearts!
This week in upper elementary…
CNX Kids learned: ”I can choose to follow Jesus and do the
things He did”
Just imagine if Jesus were a kid, living
in your house with your family. How would He treat them? Would He be kind or mean?
Would He be patient or impatient? Following
Jesus means that, with God’s power, we try to do the things that
Jesus would do if He were us. It means looking at Jesus’
life and copying what you see.
This week, Upper Elementary kids had fun
playing a mystery game that challenged them to step into the greatest
invitation ever!
Following Jesus means imitating Jesus.
Who will follow Jesus? Whoever chooses to be like Him!
Hey Parents,
Want to explore this
week’s lesson with your child at home?
Here’s
how!!
Preschool & Lower elementary School:
Review the weekly Bible story
by reading it together
God is always ready to help.
David Anointed King • 1 Samuel 16:1-13
Help your children live out
this week’s Bible verse by finding
examples of it in their own lives and yours.
“We have the Lord our God to help us.”
2 Chronicles 32:8, NLT
Try out the following
activity:
Play a game of “Hot or Cold”
with your child. Pick a favorite stuffed
animal and hide it. When your child
begins looking for it, tell him he’s “hot,”
if he’s
getting close to it, or “cold,” if he’s moving away
from it. Saying these two simple words will help him find the stuffed animal.
Once you have played a few times, let your child hide the animal and tell you
“hot”
or “cold”
while you look for it. Remind your child that God helped Samuel do a big thing
and find the new king, David, and He will help us do big things too!
Set aside time throughout the
week to pray together:
Dear God, thank You for always being
ready to help us. We pray that we will listen to You, like Samuel did, and
always do what You say. We love You, God. In Jesus’
name, amen.
upper elementary School:
Encourage your child to
explain to you how they have learned ways that: I
can choose to follow Jesus and do the things He did
Review the weekly Bible story
by reading it together:
The disciples follow Jesus (Luke 6:12-16)
Help your children live out
this week’s Bible verse by finding
examples of it in their own lives and yours.
“Come, follow me,”
Jesus said. —
Matthew 4:19a
Try out the following
activity:
Play a big family game of Simon Says.
Make sure everyone in your family gets the chance to be Simon and lead the rest
of the family. Afterward, talk about how easy or difficult it is to copy
someone else. See if anyone in your family can do an impression of a celebrity
or someone you know. Talk about how disciples are people who look at Jesus’
life and try to copy what they see. Share with your kids where you are trying
to imitate the life of Jesus and one area where you see them becoming more like
Jesus.
Have a Dinnertime Discussion!
At dinnertime this week, ask one of these
questions to get your family talking.
- Did you see anyone today do something that reminded you of Jesus?
- How can you copy that in your life?
- If Jesus were your age, lived in your house and went to your school (or worked at your job for parents), what would He do differently than you might do?
- What’s one thing you can do tomorrow to copy Jesus?
Use these questions to help kids think
about how following Jesus means imitating the life of Jesus.
Set aside time throughout the
week to pray together:
God, we love You. We know that your life
is the best life. We want to be like Jesus. Please show us one thing that we
can copy from Jesus’ life this week. Amen.
