This week In Preschool & Lower Elementary...

CNX Kids learned: ” God loves me.”

On Sunday, preschoolers and lower elementary students continued our series, On Your Mark…Get Set…Go!!

This week, our lesson was about the Parable of the Lost Sheep. The Bible teaches us that we are like sheep and sometimes stray away from God. That makes God very sad, but he never gives up on us. He keeps searching for us and calling to us. He wants to draw us back into his arms. He even sent Jesus, his Son, to save those who are lost.




This week in upper elementary…

CNX Kids learned: Jesus died so I could be a part of God’s kingdom

In Upper Elementary this week, kids continued to learn about our relationship with God and our responsibility to God. This week we looked at the story of Adam and Eve.  God made us in his image as his children, which formed that incredible relationship with him.  Upon the creation of man, He gave Adam and Eve an incredible responsibility to be rulers of his kingdom (the Garden).  As we all know, they became the first victims of sin, and thus not fulfilling that responsibility.  The kids learned of the temptation of Satan and the consequences of not listening to God.  But…all was not lost.  God then gave the ultimate gift, His Son, to accept the responsibility of sin.  As we continue each day, the responsibility to fight sin is still with us, but we now have the opportunity for the personal relationship with Jesus to help guide us.

Review the weekly Bible story by reading it together

Luke 15:3-7

God loves us and takes care of us, just like a shepherd looks after his sheep.

Help your children live out this week’s Bible verse by finding examples of it in their own lives and yours.

“Nothing can separate us from God’s love.” Romans 8:39, NIrV

Try out the following activity:

Bring some plastic shapes from a shape sorter and some small

plastic animals to bath time. Allow your child to play with them. When bath time is over, ask your child to separate the shapes from the animals. Place all of the shapes in one corner of the tub and the animals in another. Praise him for doing such a great job at separating and then tell him there’s one thing that can NEVER be separated. The Bible says that NOTHING can separate YOU from God’s love.

Set aside time throughout the week to pray together:

“Dear God, I like thinking about You being our shepherd and us being Your sheep. I think that’s cool! But I know you love us waaaaaayyy more than a shepherd loves his sheep—a lot more! I can tell by the way You take care of us. Today, we just want to say thank You. We love You, God! In Jesus’ name, amen.”

Encourage your child to explain to you how they have learned ways that: Jesus died so I could be a part of God’s kingdom.

The Fall of Man (Genesis 3)

Help your children live out this week’s Bible verse by finding examples of it in their own lives and yours.

God loved the world so much that he gave his one and only Son. Anyone who believes in him will not die but will have eternal life. — John 3:16 (NIrV)

Try out the following activity:

This week your kids learned about how sin came into the world through Adam and Eve and how Jesus died to take away that sin and restore God’s Kingdom. Kids were challenged to think about what it means to begin a relationship with God.

Take some time this week to share your own faith story with your kids and consider where they are in their journey toward God. If they are already following Jesus, talk about how they are growing in their friendship with God. If they haven’t made that decision and need to learn more, encourage their curiosity and their questions and trust the Spirit to lead you in that process. If they are ready to make a decision to follow Jesus, celebrate with them and help them to take the next step.

Have a Dinnertime Discussion!

At dinnertime this week, ask one of these questions to get your family talking.

• What was the best part of your day? What was the worst?
• Imagine if your day had just been full of best parts with no bad parts. What would have been different?
• Think about when God first made the world and everything was perfect. What do you think that was like?
• What are some things that sin did to mess up God’s perfect world?
• What did Jesus do about it?

Use these questions to help kids think about how Jesus died to bring us back into a relationship with God and bring His kingdom to earth.

Set aside time throughout the week to pray together:

God, thanks that You want us to be a part of Your family and Your Kingdom. Thank you that your story didn’t end with Adam and Eve. Thanks for Jesus and for the gift of forgiveness in Him.

This week In Preschool & Lower Elementary...

CNX Kids learned: ” God loves me.”

On Sunday, preschoolers and lower elementary students continued our series, On Your Mark…Get Set…Go!!

This week, our lesson was about God’s special plan for us.  Together, we talked about hopes and dreams for the future and how all of these fit into God’s wishes and love for us. 

Next, we reviewed our memory verse: Nothing Can Separate Us from God’s Love!  We talked about how when we move through life, learning God’s plan, the road can get rocky…Luckily, God is with us every step of the way!




This week in upper elementary…

CNX Kids learned: God made me to be His kid

In Upper Elementary this week, we continued to “launch” ourselves into understanding the relationship that God wants to have with us.  The kids spent time launching foam rockets with the lesson that the rockets would not launch themselves.  We had to fire them to set them in motion.   Our universe is the same way.  Someone had to launch the universe in to action and create it from nothing.  That someone was God.  The kids then made their own version of the creation story.  We learned that through all of God’s creation of light, stars, animals, and the seas that the only creation that was made with the personal touch of God’s hand was us.  All of the other creations were commanded to form.  In the creation of people, God took and molded us in His own image.  What an amazing feeling to know that God loves us so much that we were created with the delicacy of his personal touch.

Play a game this month each time you get in and out of your car. Tell your child that to open the car door, to get in, he has to say, “God made me.” He has to say, “God loves me” to get out of his car seat. And he has to say, “Jesus wants to be my friend forever,” to open the car door, to get out. This will be a fun way to review the three basic truths all month long. We don’t want you or your child to ever forget that God made you, God loves you and Jesus wants to

be your friend forever.

Set aside time throughout the week to pray together:

“Dear God, it makes me feel so good inside knowing You love us and you have a plan for us. Sometimes it’s fun to think about what we’ll do and be when we grow up. [ Please help us to trust Your plan. You know what’s best for us. We love You! In Jesus’ name, amen.”

Try out the following activity:

This week your kids learned that they are God’s unique creation. Play a game this week as a family where you watch for signs of family members showing their uniqueness. Whether it’s a moment where someone demonstrates a talent such as sports or art, or whether it’s more of a “being” thing — someone just showing their one-of-a kind personality, affirm your child by saying, “Hey! Fearfully and wonderfully made!” Encourage the kids to catch their siblings and even grownups being unique too.

At dinnertime this week, ask one of these questions to get your family talking.

• What’s the coolest thing God made that you saw today?
• Did you catch anyone in our family being unique today? Let’s celebrate that!
• Did anything happen today to make you feel not-so-special?
• Who needs an extra reminder today that God made them special? Are there any friends or people we know who need some encouragement?

Use these questions to help kids think about how God loves them so much that He would make them in such a special way. Help them think about how they can remind themselves of their identity as His masterpieces when they become discouraged.

Set aside time throughout the week to pray together:

God, thank You for making us. Thank You that You are our Dad in heaven who wants us to be a part of Your family. Help us to remember this week that You love us and that we are special no matter what anyone else does or says.

This week In Preschool & Lower Elementary...

CNX Kids learned: ” God loves me.”

On Sunday, preschoolers and lower elementary students began a new series called: On Your Mark…Get Set…Go!!

For the first week, we began by reminding kids that God made them. He made each little eyelash and each little freckle, and that makes them so very special.

One of the special things that God gave us are our senses.  By using our eyes, ears, nose, mouth, and hands, we can explore and appreciate God’s beautiful work around us. 

To remember this, kids created collages that appealed to all of the senses reminding them that We are made by God and that God loves us!

This week in upper elementary…

CNX Kids learned: God wants us to live out His big story

What happens when you combine our relationship with God to our responsibility to God???  Combustion!  Explosion!  Diet Coke flying in the air!  This past week in Upper Elementary, the kids learned about the dynamic reaction that can occur when we mix God as our Father with a desire to do work for God’s kingdom.  A mess was made all through the parking lot as we dropped Mentos (representing our responsibility to God) into Diet Coke (representing our relationship with God)….Fizz, Fizz, Fizz!!  The next few weeks will be exploring both our relationships and responsibilities as we look up to what God is in our lives.

Try out the following activity:

Grab a bucket of water and head outside. You’re going to make

water handprints! Simply dip your hands in the water and press them onto dry steps, driveway, sidewalk, or garage floor. Look closely at your handprints and watch as the sun slowly dries them up. Ask your child who made his hands. The answer, of course, is God made them, because God made me!

Set aside time throughout the week to pray together:

“Dear God, You are amazing! There is no one else like YOU! No one else can make people—only You can! We just want to stop and say thank You for making us. When I think of all the wonderful people You have made, I just want to say WOW! And the very best part is how You love us. You made us and You love us and that is awesome! So, thank You, God! We love You! In Jesus’ name, amen.”

Upper Elementary School:

Try out the following activity:

Take some poster board and make a family Covenant & Kingdom poster with your kids. Divide it into two columns and label one “Relationship” and the other “Responsibility.” Write a list or draw pictures under each column of ways you can focus on your relationship with God (prayer, reading the Bible, identity in Christ, etc.) and ways you can focus on your responsibility as kids of the King who want to bring heaven to earth (encouraging, serving, giving, etc.).

At dinnertime this week, ask one of these questions to get your family talking.

• What’s the best part about being a part of this family?
• What’s the best part about being in God’s family?
• Who are some people who have brought a little bit of heaven into our lives?
• Who are some people that we can bring a little bit of heaven to this week?

Use these questions to help kids think about the wonderful love and security that come with being a part of God’s family and how they can bring that love to people in their world as kids of the King.

Set aside time throughout the week to pray together:

God, we are so glad You want us to be a part of Your family and that we get to do big things with You. Help us to listen to You this week so we don’t miss out on any of the good stuff you have in store for our lives.
